Rituals & Runes Author Feature

I’ve got the magic….

…and it’s Rituals & Runes!

This amazing collection from Shifters Unleashed including tales from the hottest bestselling authors in paranormal romance and urban fantasy is coming Fall of 2o22, and you don’t want to miss it!

In this author interview, we’ll discuss Magic of the Fae by Elvira Bathory. Hint: You can only get this a book in the Rituals and Runes Anthology!

Author: Elvira Bathory

Book: Magic of the Fae

RR: According to a description of your book, your story focuses on a human in the Fae world. Can you tell us about that and why you chose a human in a supernatural setting?

Elvira: There is something about a human stumbling upon the Fae world that appeals to me. Especially if it is not intentional. Angelica doesn’t believe in the supernatural so having her be drawn into a world that never seemed real to her is making for a great story.

RR: Agreed. That is super appealing. Can’t wait to see how she reacts. What are your main characters’ defining strengths and weaknesses?

Elvira: Angelica’s weakness is that she doesn’t believe in the supernatural. If there isn’t some sort of explanation for it, then it doesn’t exist. Her strength is her heart. She is always helping those in need, even if it might mean putting herself in danger (could that be considered a weakness as well? Definitely a double-edged sword there 🙂 ).

Alasdair’s weakness is that he spends too much time with the humans. But this can also be seen as double-edged sword when he meets our heroine because he understands humans better than most Fae in the Faerie hill. His strength is the fact that he is able to help Angelica when she arrives at Faerie court, with no idea how or what is happening.

RR: Exciting! What would have to happen to make your main character speak out, or, defend a stranger, in public?

Elvira: Angelica fights for those who don’t, or won’t, fight for themselves. If she sees someone being bullied, she stands up for them no matter the environment. In fact, this is something that has cost her a job or two in the past.

RR: We sure picked a fitting question about Angelica, then, because that sounds on target. What would destroy your main characters?

Elvira: The magic of the Fae would destroy Angelica as humans weren’t meant to possess something so potent. Alasdair’s love for the humans might destroy, but there are underlying reasons he is fascinated with those that do not have power.

RR: Your story sounds complex in an intriguing way. What are two things that really surprised you about the book-writing process?

Elvira: I like to write by the seat of pants (pantser I believe is what that is called 🙂 ) but this book practically wrote itself. The characters came to life when I found the perfect cover and moved from there. I see more adventure for Angelica and Alasdair. 😉

RR: It’s magic when the words flow. What books do you have coming out that are not involved in the anthology?

I don’t have any stand-alone books coming out right at the moment but I am involved in another anthology of Fairy Tale Retellings that has been extremely fun to be a part of. My book Down the Rabbit Hole is sure to be a fun read and a very different take on Alice in Wonderland. I am of course always working on new books, but none that are quite ready to be published.

RR: What fun! What is another author’s book that you recommend highly–and perhaps even give away regularly?

Elvira: I am a huge fan of Nina Bangs. Her work is absolutely amazing. It draws you in and won’t let you go until you have read the entire book. Another great author is Karen Marie Moning. Her Fever Series and the spin-off series are great reads.

RR: Books to add to the TBR, except for Moning. She is an incredible author! Would rather go on a snowy, Christmas holiday or spend Christmas in a hot weather place?

Elvira: It is funny that you would ask this question because of the current heat wave that has enveloped much of the United States, but seeing that I live in the desert I would rather go on a snowy, Christmas holiday than spend it in a hot weather place. But that would have been my answer without the heat wave 😀

RR: Thank you for the interview! Please continue reading for more tantalizing info on Magic of the Fae.

Book blurb:

When Angelica Dawson found the golden cat broch with the emerald eyes in the box she was unpacking in her new bedroom she was delighted. She had always admired that one piece of jewelry when her grandmother was alive and was elated to discover that her mother had finally let her have it. What she didn’t know was the powers that little piece of jewelry possessed and the adventures it would take her through the Faerie mounds in New Mexico.

Excerpt: Alasdair moved towards the unmoving female, part of him wanting to make sure she was still alive and unharmed while the other part of him was wanting to see how she managed to make it into their world.

“How is this possible?” Queen Petal bellowed from her throne.

She didn’t care if the human was alive or unharmed, she just wanted to know why and how a human could be laying in the middle of her court. The queen was probably already figuring out a way to return the human to her own world, or maybe she was contemplating keeping the human in their prison ward and torturing her to get some answers.

“I’m not sure yet, Your Highness, but I aim to find out. If you will allow me to,” Alasdair answered.

Queen Petal made her way slowly toward her royal guard and the unconscious woman laying in the middle of her court, “Please investigate who this could have happened and report back to me as soon as you have any answers.”

The royal guard nodded his head as he swooped the sleeping figure off the court floor, “Right away, Your Highness.”

Alasdair made his way through the mounds, intent on getting the woman to his quarters without interruption. There were many in the Aegis Court who didn’t care for humans and wouldn’t mind ending this one’s life. Rushing through the halls, he kept his head down and held the woman as close to his body as possible to ensure her scent mixed with his own. There were also some Fae with an acute sense of smell and would track him if they caught the woman’s scent.

Turning left Alasdair ducked into his bedroom and laid the woman down on his bed. He took a step back and looked her over admiring her body for a few moments. She was short, standing at about five foot four inches, with shoulder-length auburn hair. The woman was wearing a short, tight, black dress and had no shoes on her feet. He took another moment to admire the view before trying to wake her up. Snapping himself out of his daze he began to look the woman over like a member of the royal guard instead of a male who had a beautiful woman lying in his bed, trying to see if there were any bruises or scratches that were visible. As he made his way to her head, he noticed something flashing in the light overhead. The twinkle had come from something that the woman was holding tightly in her left hand.

Moving closer, Alasdair grabbed the broach from her hand. He could feel the Faerie magic coming from the piece of jewelry and was surprised at how strong it was. It felt as if it was reaching for the human, which made no sense because humans weren’t meant to hold Faerie magic. Unless the human had Fae blood, even a small amount would work, the human would go insane wielding it.

Author Bio:

Like most authors, Elvira Bathory has always loved to read. When she was younger she had always been creative and dreamed of being the next big thing in music but found she didn’t make the cut for that creative outlet so she turned to other means of creativity. She started spinning worlds and fell in love with the idea of being a writer. When she turned 28 years old she decided it was time for her to settle down and married the man who had been pursuing her for years. Shortly after the two got married they started a family and Elvira decided it was time to dust off those old notebooks that contained her creative words so she would be able to stay home with her children. Five children later and Elvira took a chance, submitting some of her worlds wherever she could. Despite the fact that she hasn’t been published for very long she hasn’t slowed down in creating her worlds. She writes in the erotic genre, with a paranormal flair. She prefers to write about shifters, using animals that have never been used before or haven’t been used that often and she loves delving into the research to make her characters come to life. She’s been known to write a contemporary romance or two but just has more fun adding the paranormal aspect to all of her work.

Rituals & Runes Author Feature

Angels, Demons, Shifters, Vampires…Oh My!

All your favorite sexy creatures of your dreams are waiting for you in Rituals & Runes, a tantalizing collection of paranormal romance and urban fantasy tales.

Fall under the spell of Rituals & Runes, coming Fall 2022! Including the brand new book, Huntress, by Bethany Shaw. She discusses it in this interview.

Author: Bethany Shaw

Book: Huntress

R&R: Tell us 3 things we will find in your book for the anthology.

Bethany: You will find a lot of sass from my main character, Faythe. She is a strong and independent woman but underneath her layers has a heart of gold. The story has a Buffy/Charmed feel to it, and lastly Faythe and Sebastian aren’t afraid to fight for what they know is right.

R&R: I’m hooked already! Tell us three qualities of the leading man in your book.

Bethany: Sebastian is stubborn and will do anything to protect Faythe. He is a powerful wizard who uses his magic for the greater good and he loves Faythe more than she will ever know.

R&R: Sexy. What magic appears in your book and what challenges come with that magic?

Bethany: There is a lot of magic in Huntress. Faythe is a half-demon, half-witch so she has teleportation and fire conjuring from her demon half and is a medium with premonitions from her witch half. Sebastian can cast spells, Medium, advanced telekinesis, and electrokinesis.

R&R: Very rich magical talents. What makes your main character powerful? Does your main character’s power relate to the Rituals and Runes Anthology theme?

Bethany: Faythe has had her powers bound since she was a young girl and is really just starting to figure out what she can do with them since the spell is fading.

R&R: That’s a great challenge to be involved in the story. Typically do you prefer the books you read to be steamy or sweet and what is your favorite genre to read?

Bethany: I prefer steamy books but definitely prefer more story than just steam. I enjoy PNR and science fiction romance the most.

R&R: Awesome! What is your favorite magical movie?

Bethany: Practical Magic

R&R: Love it. What books do you have coming out that are not involved in the anthology?

Bethany:

Alpha Moonstone, A Vampire Rejected Mate 8/4

Hawaiian Desire, 9/27

Captured by the Barbarian 10/26

R&R: We always could read more books. Would you rather live in reality or in your anthology book? Why?

Bethany: Reality. As fun as magic and creating new worlds is I love my kiddos and husband and can’t imagine being somewhere they aren’t.

R&R: Makes total sense. That’s very sweet. Thank you for chatting with us today. Readers, please read on to find out more about Huntress.

Book blurb:

Hunting vampires, demons and all things that go bump in the night is my job. Until the council I work for plots to kill me.

They murdered my brother and have set their sights on me.  Well, I’m not going down without a fight, and I just might take a few of them with me. I’m used to working alone. No one wants to pair up with a half-demon like me, except for Sebastian. He is everywhere I go and I can’t shake him. Sebastian ignites a fire in me and I want to trust him. The things he makes me feel set my body on fire. But it’s his father who has ordered the hit on me. It’s true what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You just aren’t supposed to fall for the enemy and I’m falling hard. I just hope Sebastian isn’t the death of me.

Excerpt:

Sebastian ran to catch up with me. “Where are you going?”

I threw my hands up in the air and groaned. “Hunting. Do you plan on tagging along all night and bothering me?” Part of me really hoped he said yes. I bit the inside of my cheek at that thought. I shouldn’t want him here. He was a witch. The perfect council boy. Everything that I wasn’t. The bastard had taunted me all the way through elementary into high school. He’d been an ass until about a year or so ago. That’s when something changed between us.

There was an attraction. Something more.

I flinched when Sebastian reached out and put his hand on my shoulder. “Faythe, can we go somewhere and talk. Maybe we can come up with a plan.”

I leveled my glare at him. “I got work to do.” I put my palm on his hand to throw it off my shoulder when a premonition rocked me. I gasped as the vision took hold.

Sebastian dove toward me tackling me to the ground seconds before a demon’s blade would have hit me. We rolled across the grass and hit a gravestone. The demon, no demons approached us from all sides. These weren’t your low level demons, these were the kind that you should run from.

I opened both my palms and did something I’d never done for another person before, opened my own portal and dragged me and Sebastian straight into hell.

I snapped out of my vision with a gasp. My hand went to my chest. I drew in a shaky breath.

“What did you see?” Sebastian asked. He put his other hand on my shoulder so he was almost hugging me.

I shook my head and pulled away from him. “It was nothing.”

“You shouldn’t ignore premonitions. They usually mean something, Faythe.”

I rolled my eyes. Premonitions were my witch powers. They were erratic and I had a hard time making sense of them. They weren’t usually like this though. This one had shown me a lot. Enough to rock me to my core. Whatever I’d seen it wasn’t tonight. Sebastian had been wearing his leather jacket and he had on sweater tonight.

I shrugged away from him.

“Where are you going? What did you see?” Sebastian stalked after me.

“We are going to hell, apparently, but not tonight. Tonight I’m going home. See you later.” I waved my hand at him as I climbed on my bike. I flipped the ignition and put my foot on the pedal as I gave it some gas. Then sped away before he could say anything else. Why on earth would I ever think to take Sebastian into Hell with me? Hell was the only place I could open a portal to. When would this happen?

It wouldn’t. Couldn’t if I avoided him. That was easier said than done, but I’d never back away from a challenge.

Blurb:

The Accidental Witch

Up until three days ago, her life had been mundane.

What has been seen cannot be unseen.

What is known cannot be forgiven.

What’s been spoken cannot be taken back.

Cassiopia is the Accidental Witch. She went to bed one night and woke up to find the world had gone crazy.

Excerpt:

She was hallucinating. There was no other explanation for what she was looking at as she walked from her apartment to work. Looking around, she wondered if they were filming a movie or something in the area around her apartment or on a neighboring street. There were people with pointy ears and the most beautiful faces. But if you stared long enough, their eyes would change color, and their features would morph into something nasty with lots of sharp teeth. The thing was that every single monster on the street seemed to know that she was watching them and their eyes transfixed on her, and they did not look happy to see her. In fact, they looked like they wanted to kill her.

A man approached and took her arm, “If you want to live you need to come with me. Now!”

“If said monster didn’t want to take on the additional monster duties they said they did then why don’t they just say so?” Monster one asked Monster Two.

Cassiopeia was still stuck on their names being, Monster One and Monster Two. She knew she would regret asking but still didn’t seem capable of stopping herself. She figured it probably had something to do with the stuff she’d ingested, absorbed, or tripped over.

And without further ado, her mouth was moving, and the words escaped her lips. “If you don’t mind me asking,” she began. “If you’re Monster One and you’re number two….”

“No, I’m Monster Two. I’m definitely not Number Two.” Monster Two stated in a way that said he wasn’t happy about the mix-up in names.

“I’m sorry,” she apologized. Then trying again, she refused to give up on getting her answer, “If you’re Monster One and you’re Monster Two then what are your parents’ names?”

Author Bio:

Melissa Bell lives in Brisbane, Australia. She has loved to read since the age of twelve when she discovered ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’, previous to reading this book she hated reading. With a couple of handfuls of years and thousands of books later she wanted to try writing.

She has most recently accomplished making the USA Today Best Sellers List in October 2021. And has now set her sights on reaching the NY Times Best Sellers List.

She enjoys good food and good company when she’s not trying to concentrate on what she’s writing. She loves to laugh as laughter makes the world go round not money. Unfortunately laughter doesn’t pay the bills unless you’re a really well-known stand-up comedian. Which she is not. She is hoping that this is the start of an exciting adventure as a published Author, and that maybe something amazing will come of it. She would like to invite you all to join her on her journey.

Rituals & Runes Author Feature

Looking for a fantastic read? All your favorite sexy creatures of your dreams are waiting for you in Rituals & Runes, a tantalizing collection of paranormal romance and urban fantasy tales. Angels, Demons, Shifters, Vampires…Oh My!

And if you wanted to hear about the books before they come out, we’ve got you covered. Read on for an author interview with C.A. King as she discusses, The Devil’s Daughter. BTW, can only get it through the anthology!

Author: C.A. King

Book: The Devil’s Daughter

R&R: Glad to chat with you today. We’re looking forward to this interview.

What inspired you to write about the characters in your book that is in the anthology?

King: A family member was actually involved in filming a ghost hunting type show. My mind went in a rather different direction following a few what-ifs.

R&R: Ghost hunting shows are the best! And that’s such a creative way to come up with a concept. Sometimes the inspiration strikes so nicely.

What made you take the leap and become a writer?

King: Writing was an escape from depression and the trials and tribulations of tragedies in my life.

R&R: Books can be a great escape for both the writer and the reader. Writing is very special.

If you had to name a pet after one of your characters, which character’s name would you use, and what type of pet would it be?

King: I probably wouldn’t. Names, whether in my stories or for pets, are very important to me. Each needs the perfect one or I’m not satisfied.

R&R: Understandable. Fur babies can be so special, as are our stories.

What is your favorite type of world-building to create? Magical or urban fantasy or real-world etc?

King: Magic! I love magic. The possibilities are endless.

R&R: That makes total sense. Magic does have infinite possibilities.

What job would your FMC have in the real world?

King: Oh! She’s a devil so world-ruler? It would at least be a power position, considering her abilities.

R&R: LOL! Love it! She seems like a ton of fun.

Was your writing process any different for this story versus your other books?

King: I think this is one of the easier stories to write. It flowed from the moment I sat down right through the end.

R&R: That’s the best! Glad to hear it.

What books do you have coming out that are not involved in the anthology?

King: 2022-23 are years of the anthology for me. I have multiple anthologies and multi-author shared world books coming out, including some for charities.

R&R: Are you a morning person or a night owl?

King: Night, please.

R&R: Readers have A LOT to look forward to regarding The Devil’s Daughter and your other books. Thanks so much for talking with us! Continue on for more tidbits about The Devil’s Daughter.

Book blurb:

Ghost Hunters had it wrong.

The Johnson brothers were living in the limelight, seeking out proof of the paranormal in front of the public eye. Fame, fortune, and success came hand-in-hand with evidence. Answers were worth their weight in gold. The trio had no idea they were asking all the wrong questions… until she appeared.

Pretty dresses and jewels meant nothing when all she wanted was respect. The moment Vallenna spiraled down a black hole, life turned upside down. It was the chance she’d been waiting her whole life for.

Born to rule two realms, but accepted by neither, the devil’s daughter is determined to leave her mark on both. Can the brothers stop her diabolical plans with only charisma and raw animal magnetism at their disposal?

Excerpt:

“Possibilities?” He scowled, pushing the rolling chair he was seated in out from behind a desk. “What possibilities? Are you saying you saw something in the pilot we missed?”

“I am,” Natalie agreed. “I think you should watch it again.”

He rolled back. “Okay. What am I looking for?”

Natalie pointed over his shoulder. “There.”

“What?” Jack shrugged.

“You tell everyone sometimes it takes a while for entities to speak,” Natalie explained. “But then it’s as if you forgot that part right after.”

Jack sighed, chewing on the end of a pen. “Still not getting what you want me to see.”

“The words the device answers,” Natalie huffed. “What if they aren’t just random? String them together.”

“Yes. Please. Help me. Get out. Wall. Idiots.” He arched a brow, glancing at her profile.

“And?” The pen landed on the desk. “What am I supposed to do with this?”

“Please help me get out of wall,” Natalie read off. “I heard the ‘of’ before ‘wall.’ Listen to it again, if you want.”

“Are you telling me, you honestly believe, something is stuck in the wall?” Jack shook his head, trying to wrap it around her line of thinking. “That’s sort of stretching it, don’t you think?”

“Yeah,” she answered. “And when you didn’t understand it took a while to form a complete sentence it called you three idiots.” Her voice rose. “And I fully agree.”

Author Bio:

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real-time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Fast forward to today…

Rituals & Runes Author Feature

Looking for your next favorite read?

The runes are cast, the rituals prepared, now it’s time for you to go on an adventure filled with witches, demons, shifters, and more.

Don’t miss out on this interview to talk with Andie M. Long about her book, Slayer Versus Player, coming out in the Rituals and Runes Anthology!

Rituals & Runes

Author: Andie M. Long

Book: Slayer Versus Player

R&R: Tell us something we wouldn’t suspect from your submission?

Andie: Slayer is a funny book. I’m not sure how many authors in the collection have written romantic comedies, but my paranormals come with sass, snark, and silliness!

R&R: Humor is a special talent and having seen many of your fun covers, we’re not surprised you would include jokes.

If you could have any item out of your story what would it be and why?

Andie: I would love the secret glade surrounded by trees in the middle of the woods. A great place to escape when you want to be alone with your thoughts, or to do your magic rituals in.

R&R: A secret glade! Yes, perfect to escape and refresh yourself.

What are things your main characters do NOT want to do?

Andie: To fall in love with each other. Aurora and Luke are sworn enemies and cannot stand each other!

R&R: Got to love that Enemies-to-lovers tension!

Just for fun, what tattoo would you get to represent your submission?

Andie: Definitely a stake to represent the slayer. The whole book idea originated from firstly a premade I fell in love with and then the fact it’s the 25th anniversary of Buffy next March.

R&R: We adore those reasons. A paranormal tattoo like that would be so awesome!

You have multiple pen names. Which book was your favorite that you have written under any of them?

Andie: My favourite book is The Vampire Wants a Wife under my Andie M. Long name. I fell in love with Theo, the main character, as I wrote about him, and I’ve been in love with him ever since. He’s old-fashioned in manner, though has kept himself up to date with modern technology, and watching him as he gets his woman and then becomes an overprotective father has been a delight.

R&R: Romantic and it’s on our TBR list now!

What distractions do you have to overcome when writing?

Andie: Oh my, This is my biggest peeve ever. I seem to be the go-to for all the neighbourhood parcels so my doorbell is always ringing. My OH has just gone part-time and so he’s constantly interrupting me. My son often works 5pm-12 midnight shifts so same, and my parents will just call round (they live around the corner). I’m okay until writing days where the interruptions make my blood boil. Trying to explain that they might have only needed 2 mins of my time but it’s pulled me completely out of the story just falls on deaf ears!

R&R: What a tough situation. And sometimes it’s hard to get a private office space.

What books do you have coming out that are not involved in the anthology?

Andie: In September I have book five of my Sucking Dead series, Hot As Suck releasing. This one is about a dragon shifter who has just started dating and then finds out he’s heir to a dragon throne. Jason, the main character, is a happy go lucky chap who wants to chill, not command, so it’ll be interesting to see where the story takes me!

If you like supernaturals who live in a cute village, and books with humour, start with book one Suck My Life.

R&R: Lovely! Lots to look forward to.

Would you rather hear dirty limericks or sweet nothings and why?

Andie: Most definitely dirty limericks. Sweet romantic stuff makes me want to gag lol. I have a filthy mind and make innuendo out of everything. You know I now have to create one, right?

There once was a woman called Anna

Who had a peculiar manner

She’d climb into bed

To give her man head

But instead handled it like a jackhammer.

See what I mean? I don’t know where this filth comes from hahahaha.

R&R: You’re a riot! Lol! That was great.

Check out the information on Slayer Versus Player and read a juicy tidbit below.

Book blurb:

Lucien Youngblood is a vampire… and a player

As the heir of Beastwick, he thinks he can do what he likes, including treating women like childhood toys, discarded after one play when he’s bored.

Only now I’m here. Rory de Courtenay, the seventh of seven witches, fated to take back rule of the town stolen from us by Luc’s father.

I’m completely unimpressed by the tall, good looking, arrogant male who’s determined to find out why my family has returned.

It’s de Courtenay versus Youngblood. Until a ghost reveals there’s another way forward.

Together.

I wouldn’t trust Luc as far as I could throw him, and the feeling is entirely mutual. As far as I’m concerned, in Beastwick, there’s everything to slay for.

And Luc Youngblood better keep an eye on his heart… because I might just plunge a stake through it.

Excerpt:

“I’ll see you out,” Aurora said in a tone that brooked no argument.

She strolled in front of me, through the hall and to the large door at the entrance, which she pulled open. I walked through it, and she followed me out onto the porch.

“So he’s still here, the great Ocean Youngblood, and he married his mistress, the one who spilled our secrets.” I looked down at her hand and she huff-laughed. “We no longer wear rings on our fingers that can be hacked off, Mr Youngblood, so don’t waste your time looking.”

“I was actually seeing if you were betrothed,” I shot back in a complete lie. “Though, as I figured, you clearly aren’t. I mean, who’d bloody put up with you?”

She screwed up her face in distaste. “Good of you to stop by. Here’s a message for your family from me. I will be listening to the house as it and my ancestors reveal the secrets as to why it called me home,” she said. “Because I know, in here.” She put a hand to her heart. “It did. It called us all home.”

She put a finger under my chin and raised my eyes back to her own from where they’d been looking at her chest.

“I was not checking out your rack if that’s what you were thinking. It would be impossible to discern it within all that dreadful material. Plus, you annoy me immensely. Now Louisa, she seems much more my kind of woman,” I teased.

“You come near any of my sisters, and I will slay you.” She mimed dusting me off by fisting her hand and pushing it out into my chest and going, “Poof.” I caught her hand and pulled her up close to me, making her stumble and fall into my chest.

“I’ll bite you and enjoy every drop of your blood before that happens,” I said, relishing in the fact that she looked discomfited. She righted herself then pulled the zip of her onesie down and showed me her breasts.

I was mesmerised because they were glorious. I had seen many, many breasts in my time and hers were creamy, full, and pink-tipped with the perfect amount of areola, and right up close. Indeed, I was so distracted that Aurora pushed me and I landed on my arse at the bottom of the porch steps.

“You might be a vampire, but you’re still a pathetic dude,” she announced, before going back in the house and slamming the door.

Rituals & Runes Author Feature

The runes tell no lies…

…and they tell me you are going to LOVE Rituals & Runes, a collection of magical, alluring, and sensational tales.

Read on for an interview with author Bella Roccaforte as she tells us about her book, The Raven Sorceress, which will appear only in the anthology!

Author: Bella Roccaforte

Book: The Raven Sorceress

R&R: We appreciate you joining us to talk about your book, The Raven, which will be exclusive to the anthology.

Based on your book title we would assume there is magic in your book, what type of magic can we expect to find?

Bella: Aisling is our Raven Sorceress, she discovers her fae and sorcery roots on a journey to her homeworld. She’s got a little bit of fire and ice mixed with the divine power of the raven.

R&R: Got to love fire and ice, plus the Raven. Powerful and bound to stir up some fun trouble.

You seem to write in a lot of genres. What theme is consistent in all your books?

Bella: Imperfect characters and deep friendships. Many of my books feature tight friend groups that go through their own issues together. In my own life, I don’t have traditional family. My family, the ones who I’d put my life on the line for are my friends.

R&R: Beautiful. Some readers probably identify with chosen family so that’s a deep theme to weave into your books.

Do you ever relate to your characters, and if so, how? How would you help them if you could?

Bella: I think I often relate to many of the characters in my stories in some way or another. Aisling, my MC is a little lost from being pulled from the only life and world she ever knew, to suddenly being immersed in a fantastical fairy land where she’s expected to defeat the evil queen and become ruler herself. She doesn’t want that. She knows the crown is heavier than what she wants for herself. But she’s young and needs guidance. I think I would be the seer she meets with, to help guide her to the right choice, for her and the realm.

R&R: That would be a huge, shocking job and it’s neat you would counsel her like that.

Tell us a few sentences about your main characters’ strengths and weaknesses.

Bella: Aisling is set in what she wants for herself. She’s also unrelenting and strong in her convictions for what’s right. She was trained to fight from an early age by her father before he left. She never understood the training until now. She’s very overwhelmed and trying to do her best. Her weakness is being a bit selfish and not really being able to communicate with all of these new situations and people in her life. She doesn’t want the responsibility.

R&R: It will be interesting to see how her challenges pan out!

When you were growing up, what did you want to be as an adult?

Bella: A cat. I’m not kidding. I used to walk around on all fours and insisted that I was going to be a cat when I grew up.

R&R: Being a cat does seem like a relaxing job to have, so we don’t blame you.

Do you have any quirks that help you write?

Bella: Not really. When a story is flowing I will not stop writing until I’m empty or simply fall asleep at the keyboard. I ended up with a huge goose egg on my head once when I literally fell asleep at my desk and my head slammed down.

R&R: That’s dedicated and seems like you could get a lot done!

What books do you have coming out that are not involved in the anthology?

Bella: I’ve made some decisions about my writing career that involve being gentle with myself and only writing when I’m absolutely loving it. That has evolved to me only publishing one book per year. I have a few other stories I’m working on, but not sure of a release date. I write for the love now, and only the love.

R&R: Awesome way to balance things out.

Would you rather own your own boat or your own plane? Tell us about your choice.

Bella: I would rather own a plane so I can go anywhere I want and get there fast.

R&R: Works for us! Thanks for talking with Rituals and Runes Anthology today. Read in to find out more information and read a juicy snippet.

Book blurb:

Aisling gripped her phone staring at a message she thought she’d never see.

Her father left behind two things when he disappeared. A dagger that glows in moonlight and an amulet fabled to call Queen Alavon’s feathered fiends. Aisling has no use for either trinket her father bankrupted them to find. She never believed in his treasure hunts or his faith in the portal to fae. But when someone breaks in and almost kills her fighting for the dagger, she knows her father isn’t just off on one of his expeditions. He’s in danger. Now, so is she and sibling Alex. She’s dragged to the Fae realm to reclaim a birthright she doesn’t want.

Will Aisling fight for her people that are being tortured and transformed into zombie-like creatures? Or will she walk away?

Excerpt:

My eyes fluttered open, it sounded like I was under water. The air burned and stung my lungs as I breathed it in.

“Just stay down for minute.” Ferg’s body still covering mine.

“I can’t breathe this air.” I choked.

“I know, it’s going to clear.” Ferg sputtered.

He came into focus, there were black smudges on his face and shoulders. He was straining and I struggled to not squirm under him.

The world held a dark blue hue washed in the freakish moonlight streaming through the trees.

“When I give you the signal, get up and run in that direction, keep running until I tell you to stop.” He said with an intensity and seriousness that drove the message into my very being that if I didn’t do as he said, I would die.

I nodded ready to go but then realized. “What’s the signal?”

Ferg cracked a smile that shattered my fear. “I don’t know, I’ll say ‘go’.”

I nodded again.

Ferg looked over his shoulder, then side to side, then ahead of us. With urgency in his eyes, he gave me the signal.

I scrambled out from under him trying to get upright. My fingers dug into the loamy ground and I finally righted myself to run.

My legs burned and I checked behind me looking for Ferg. I couldn’t see him through the smoke. A million things ran through my mind all at once. The one thing at the forefront of my mind was, is Ferg okay?

If I yell they could find me. But what if something happened to him?

I stopped in my tracks and started running back.

“What are you doing?” Ferg’s voice came through the smoke.

“Looking for you.”

“I’m fine, keep running.” He huffed out as he was running next to me.

There was no way I was going to be able to keep running much longer. Everything hurt and the air was decimating my lungs.

My paced slowed and Ferg took my hand and dragged me. “Don’t give up on me now, we’re almost there.”

I mustered that last bit of energy I had to keep going. We broke through the smoke into a beautiful valley that exploded with intense color everywhere. I stopped and put my hands on my knees trying to catch my breath. I collapsed onto the ground.

Ferg stood over me glaring with disapproval. “Why did you come back? What were you thinking?”

“I was thinking if you weren’t right behind me I wouldn’t know when to stop running.”

Ferg’s lips ticked to the side and his eyes squinted looking into me. “Really?”

“Yeah, really.”

“Don’t do that again. It’s my job to keep you safe.” He shook his head and reached his hand down to me. “Let’s go.”
